Personalized guidance
When might this care be recommended?
- A cavity has been identified.
- A tooth is chipped, cracked, or has minor damage that needs restoration.
- You would like to discuss replacing an older metal filling.
Tooth-colored fillings restore teeth affected by cavities or minor damage with a composite material that is shaded to blend in with your natural smile.
Understanding your care
Tooth-colored fillings, also called composite fillings, are made from a resin material that is matched to the shade of your surrounding teeth. After the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is removed, the material is placed in layers, shaped, and hardened with a curing light.
Because composite bonds directly to the tooth, it can often be used with a more conservative preparation than traditional metal fillings. We will evaluate the size and location of the area and talk with you about whether a tooth-colored filling or another restorative option is most appropriate.

Thoughtful treatment
Your visit
Your visit begins with an evaluation of the tooth. After the area is numbed, the affected tooth structure is removed and the composite material is placed, shaped, and hardened in layers before being polished to blend in with your smile.
After treatment, we will check your bite and review how to care for the restored tooth as part of your ongoing dental care.
Questions, answered
Composite fillings are a durable option for many small to moderate restorations. For larger areas of damage, we may discuss whether a crown or another restoration would provide better long-term support.
In many cases, yes. We will evaluate the condition of your existing fillings and discuss whether replacement is appropriate for you.
Your recommendation is based on an individual evaluation, your oral health, and the questions or goals you bring to the visit.
